Is there anybody out there?

The rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated.  I'm still married (yea!), I still have a son (he's now 11, I haven't killed him yet), I'm still knitting. In short, SSDD.

Though, I have decided that I need another hobby.  I want a spinning wheel.  I've wanted one for a very long time, but the urge is even stronger now as I've pretty much stopped knitting with anything that is man-made (or mostly man-made) because natural fibers are the bomb.  And I've got some roving around here that I'd like to spin up, but only have a drop spindle (and hell and be damned if I'm going to try to spin 2 pounds of roving on a drop spindle).

The nice thing about this hobby is that it goes along with my knitting hobby.  Now if I can only get DH to believe it.

Please don't laugh at me

This is what my best friend said to me just before she brought out her yarn stash for me to look at last weekend. She made me promise about 3 times before she walked out and returned with a Rubbermaid footlocker full of yarn.

I sat there stonefaced.

"Aren't you going to say anything?" she asked.

"No. I would never laugh at anyone's stash."

Her DH calls it the yarn safe. And I think this is wonderful, since the dog likes to eat the wooden knitting needles, and has ruined more than one project because of it.

Kim hadn't knit since college when one day she asked me to show her again. She was traveling for work and wanted something she could work on in her hotel room. She used to cross-stitch, but I think all of the little bits and ends got to be too much.

She has taken to it again like a fish to water, and is about as obsessed with yarn as one can be with 2 kids, 2 cats, a dog, hamsters, fish, and a turtle (oh, and the snake they are watching for the neighbors for a month). She has thanked me numerous times for giving her something she can do while sitting with her husband as he watches yet another television program that she has no interest in (but complains that she nevers spends time with him).

I wish my stash was as well organized.
